This group advocates for universal rights for the humane treatment of all individuals, ensuring that enforcement agencies like ICE operate with full transparency, legal accountability, and a core commitment to human dignity.
Specifically, we focus on being informed with what’s happening to immigrants nationally and in our community, educating and making our representatives and community members aware of it and formulating positions and taking actions to stop or mitigate the injustices. We help those in distress now while also working to fix a broken immigration system.
In our latest call, we discussed some of the latest immigration activities and events, relevant court cases, and member outreach to representatives. We’re now prioritizing areas of focus and formulating a strategy and plans. Group members pursue areas they are passionate about from immigrant community support, reaching out to representatives, and driving initiatives to stop the injustices.
Don’t let what you’re seeing and hearing go unanswered. If you want to join a community of like-minded advocates dedicated to making a difference. We are currently shaping our next steps—join us at the ground level and help lead the change If you want to be involved please sign up here.
This group works to strengthen democracy through education, truth, and public empowerment. We break down the Constitution, government power, and civic rights in clear, accessible language so people can see how decisions are made — and how to hold leaders accountable.
Our workshops and materials are nonpartisan, fact-based, and rooted in law, not spin. We create space for respectful, informed conversations that push back against misinformation and disengagement. Through tabling, teach-ins, and community events, we help people turn knowledge into meaningful civic action.

We are seeking a lead for this area to track legislation going through Congress, the Virginia State Legislature and local government. This lead will provide updates on legislation for awareness to the team and coordinate reach-out to representatives to let our voices be heard! Interested? Email info@turningthetables.live .
As of 2/7/26, these 4 amendments have been signed by Governor Spanberger, but must be voted on to be added to Virginia's Constitution.
The first amendment will be on the ballot in a special election April 21.
Mid-Decade Redistricting (HJ4): Allows the General Assembly to redraw congressional districts outside the traditional 10-year cycle if other states do so, effective through 2030.
If passed, new districts will be in place for the November 2026 general election.
Voting YES on this amendment is about restoring fairness and leveling the playing field. This redistricting amendment is a temporary measure that will leave Virginia’s bipartisan Redistricting Commission in charge when lines are scheduled to be redrawn in 2031. In essence, with this amendment Virginia Democrats are asking “voters for permission to counter Donald Trump’s unprecedented race to rig congressional districts” says David M. Poole in the Virginia Mercury, January 22, 2026.
How does redistricting impact you? Check here: https://www.vpap.org/redistricting/2026/
The remaining three amendments will be on the ballot in the general election November 3.
Reproductive Freedom (SB449/HJ1): Proposes a constitutional amendment for the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot to establish a fundamental right to reproductive care, including abortion, while allowing third-trimester restrictions unless the patient's health is at risk.
Voting Rights Restoration (SJ2/HJ2): Proposes automatically restoring voting rights to citizens upon release from incarceration for a felony conviction, removing the requirement for executive clemency.
Same-Sex Marriage (HJ3): Aims to repeal the current, invalidated constitutional definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman, replacing it with an affirmative right to marriage for all adult persons.
On her first day in office on January 17, 2026, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed 10 executive orders (EO) focused on reducing living costs, increasing housing production, improving health financing, and reversing previous administration policies, including rescinding an immigration enforcement order.
Key actions from her initial day in office, which aimed to immediately address campaign promises, included:
Cost of Living (EO #1): Directed state agencies to identify immediate, actionable policy or budgetary changes to reduce expenses for Virginia families.
Healthcare (EO #2): Established an Interagency Health Financing Task Force to maximize federal funding, lower costs, and improve health infrastructure.
Housing (EO #3): Ordered a review of regulations and permitting to boost housing development and lower costs.
Anti-Discrimination (EO #9): Issued an executive order prohibiting discrimination across all aspects of state government.
Immigration (EO #10 - Rescinded EO 47): Revoked a previous executive order related to immigration enforcement, requiring state and local law enforcement to NOT use their resources to federal civil immigration laws.
Constitution Re-do?
The main reason for the February 21, 1787 meeting in Philadelphia was to revise the Articles of Confederation. However, the delegates soon concluded that it would be necessary to write an entirely new Constitution.
They agreed to conduct the meetings in secrecy by stationing guards at the door to the Pennsylvania state house. When one delegate dropped a convention document, Chairman George Washington replied, "I must entreat the gentlemen to be more careful, lest our transactions get into the newspapers and disturb the public repose."
