Background:

Right now, immigrant communities across Virginia are facing escalating, systemic injustices. The lack of federal oversight of purposeful illegality and cruelty from agencies like ICE and CBP means Virginia must step up. We want to move from reactively fighting bad bills and crises to a proactive state defense. Our comprehensive roadmap for the 2027 legislative session, which lasts only 45 days, follows a deliberate, two-pronged strategy:

• Finish the priority work started in 2026 by moving forward on stalled and vetoed bills. 

• Expand our legislative shield by introducing entirely new bills to fill the critical gaps that were previously missed.

Vision:

Build a proactive, comprehensive legislative plan for the 2027 Virginia General Assembly. Instead of simply reacting to policies as they arise, this effort is dedicated to constructing a broader framework and narrative that ensures immigrant communities across the Commonwealth are protected, valued, and integrated.

Immediate Goals:

• Finding Dedicated Advocates: Building a robust coalition of community partners, organizations, and legal experts to co-create and support the plan.

• Securing Legislative Champions: Connecting with state representatives who are ready to lead the introduction and defense of these critical bills in Richmond.
